Volunteer Firefighter Relies on Unexpected Partner - His F-150 Lightning

It’s hard to believe that just 10 years ago I made the move from a big city to a small rural pocket outside of Ottawa, in search of a simpler, quieter life. Drawn to North Gower due to close family nearby, I quickly settled into a life I loved, building relationships through sports teams and community events and finding passion in local pastimes. As I solidified my place in the community, I felt I wanted to do more.

What began as a gesture of service soon became a calling, rooted in the bonds of neighbours looking out for one another. Two of my siblings are first responders (one a police officer and one a paramedic), so I made the decision to continue in their path of community service and join the crew of volunteer firefighters dedicated to North Gower and its surrounding areas.

When I got my 2023 F-150 Lightning XLT, it was love at first sight. It's an absolutely amazing vehicle. With an EV, it's very refreshing knowing every time I get in, it just GOES right away. I never have to worry about it warming up, wasting time getting gas in a potential emergency or mechanical engine-related issues. It gives me such peace of mind, I could go on forever. In fact, none of my past Ford vehicles have ever let me down, including my 2019 F-150 Lariat, a 2017 F-150 XLT, a 1996 Probe and a 1994 Mustang.

Committed to the Cause

Becoming a Firefighter at my age (41), wasn’t easy, but I was up for the challenge and committed myself to the process through physical training, part-time studies and dedicating years to preparing for the role. And through it all, an unexpected partner has been by my side: my Ford F-150 Lightning. For me, this truck isn’t just reliable transportation; it’s a trusted companion whose features help me stay ready and prepared to serve the community I cares so deeply about.

The front trunk (“frunk”) has become an essential part of my setup, allowing me to safely store my bunker gear and equipment away from the cleaner cab space. Given how messy, odorous, and potentially contaminated this gear can be before decontamination, the frunk offers both separation and convenience. It’s quick to access when I arrive on scene—especially important since I often respond directly from home due to the distance from the station.

Even in the heart of winter, all-wheel drive keeps me safe and warm en route to emergencies. And with Pro Power Onboard, I can operate tools and provide lighting during nighttime calls, giving me the confidence to serve effectively when it matters most.

Igniting a Passion for Community Service

In a rural community there are no full-time firefighters - everything is performed by volunteers, making my job and my reliance on my truck that much more important.

Every morning, I wake up proud to serve. Whether the call comes in the dead of night or the middle of a busy workday, I’m ready. This isn’t just a duty—it’s a passion I live for.
