Ford today received recognition for its exceptional contributions to meeting technological, climate, poverty and sustainability challenges in “Exploring the Global Sustainable Innovation Landscape: The Top 100 Companies and Beyond” by LexisNexis®. This first-of-its-kind report ranks companies according to the potential of their patent portfolios to advance innovation toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ford has been ranked #12 on the Top 100 list – the highest ranking for a US automotive company – joining a prestigious list of corporate patent owners advancing transformative solutions to drive environmental and social progress.
“Ford is honored to be recognized as a Member of the Top 100 and proud to be among the leaders aligning their businesses with sustainable development goals,” said Bob Holycross, Chief Sustainability, Environment & Safety Officer. “In our aim to be carbon neutral by 2050, we know that it’s going to take a lot of hard work and a lot of innovation to get us there. We also know that we can’t get there alone. That’s why it’s so inspiring to see how a host of companies are exploring novel approaches to protect the planet, improve lives, and like Ford, working to build a better world.”
Ford is focusing on three areas that account for approximately 95 percent of the company’s carbon emissions: facilities, vehicles and the supply chain. The company has invested $50 billion through 2026 to develop and manufacture electric vehicles and batteries, and is currently on the path to reach a targeted annual production run rate of 600,000 EVs by the end of 2023 and more than 2 million by the end of 2026. Ford’s definition of sustainability is broad, and also encompasses efforts to protect people and the planet by adopting more sustainable manufacturing processes, recycling materials and reducing waste, fostering DEI, investing in communities, and protecting human rights.
