A Recall Update and What We’re Doing for Customers

At Ford, our commitment to the quality of our vehicles and the safety of our customers is paramount. Our brand is built on trust, and that trust is built on delivering on these commitments as much as designing and assembling great cars, trucks and SUVs. That's why we're providing an update regarding our ongoing efforts to enhance vehicle quality, specifically addressing rearview camera performance in certain models.

As part of our commitment to putting safety first, Ford is announcing a safety recall for approximately 1.4 million vehicles to address potential issues with analog rearview cameras. Rearview camera recalls have been an industry issue, and we at Ford aim to move past this specific problem with analog rearview cameras.

Simultaneously, we are announcing that we will provide a new 15-year rearview camera extended warranty for other rearview camera-equipped vehicles not included in this recall. We are taking this additional action to provide extra reassurance to our customers.

The recall covers certain 2015-2019 model year vehicles equipped with analog rearview cameras. The issue involves a potential malfunction of the rearview camera, which could impair the driver's ability to see behind the vehicle. Drivers might experience a distorted, inverted, and/or intermittent or persistent loss of image from the rearview camera. This can reduce or distort the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The affected models for this safety recall include:

  • 2016 Ford Fusion
  • 2015-2019 Ford Flex
  • 2015-2016 Ford Escape
  • 2019 Ford Fiesta
  • 2015-2016; 2018-2019 Ford Taurus
  • 2015-2016 Ford C-Max
  • 2020 Ford Mustang
  • 2015 Ford Explorer
  • 2015 Lincoln MKZ
  • 2015; 2019 Lincoln MKT

Customers whose vehicles are identified in this safety recall will be prompted to have their vehicles inspected. If the inspection reveals the need to replace their rearview camera, it will be replaced free of charge. Ford believes this recall will resolve analog rearview camera issues for affected customers.

The 15-year rearview camera extended warranty applies to a broader range of Ford and Lincoln vehicles with certain rearview cameras that are not covered under earlier recalls or the current recall. Under this comprehensive program, customers who experience a rearview camera issue confirmed by a Ford or Lincoln dealer will receive a replacement for their rearview camera, offering long-term assurance.

The models covered by this 15-year rearview camera extended warranty include certain:

  • 2015 Ford Fusion
  • 2020-2022 Ford Escape
  • 2015-2018 Ford Fiesta
  • 2017 Ford Taurus

These ambitious actions are part of a larger, ongoing effort at Ford to improve vehicle quality across our entire lineup.

Over the past two years, we've significantly expanded our team of safety and technical experts, more than doubling our resources. We've also dramatically increased "testing to failure" protocols on critical systems. The invaluable insights gained from this rigorous testing are being rapidly integrated into our production models. We’re also seeing progress in our newest vehicles. Our 2025 initial quality is on track to become among our best ever, and Ford was the most awarded brand in the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study, with four Ford vehicles topping their segments.

By applying these new, stringent standards, we are proactively identifying and addressing issues even in earlier model years, often before they are reported by customers. Our unwavering commitment extends to every Ford owner, recognizing our responsibility goes beyond those purchasing new vehicles.

We encourage customers with any questions about this recall or their rearview camera's performance to visit their local Ford dealer for more information and inspection, or to contact Ford customer service directly at 1-866-436-7332. Your safety and satisfaction remain our top priorities.
