Exploring BlueCruise Summer: Dispatches from the Road

Summer is the perfect time to hit the road, explore new places, and make lasting memories. For Alan J. and Ali R., road trips aren’t just about reaching their destinations. They’re about enjoying the journey along the way.

It helps when that journey is made easier with BlueCruise1 hands-free highway driving, which is increasingly popular among Ford drivers. About 13 million more BlueCruise trips were taken over the 2024 summer season compared to the previous year2 — and there’s a good chance even more will be taken this year.

Here’s how two drivers are taking advantage it this summer.

Beach Days and Florida Adventures

For Alan J., summer means family time and exploring Florida’s beautiful beaches in their Mustang Mach-E. Living in Orlando, he and his family often take day trips to two favorite spots: Cocoa Beach on the state’s east coast and St. Petersburg on the west. While the destinations are stunning, the drives can be challenging.

“The drive out to Cocoa Beach is only about an hour, but the highway (SR 528) is very straight and can really take a toll on your mind,” Alan said. “Using BlueCruise on this stretch is great because it helps me stay relaxed and makes the trip so much easier since over 70% of it is hands-free.”

When heading west toward St. Pete, the family usually faces lots of traffic. “The drive down I-4 is a long one with lots of congestion,” he said. “BlueCruise helps make this less anxiety-filled for sure.”

Alan said the technology has transformed how his family travels. In the car now, they enjoy listening to music and have a playlist just for road trips. Once they arrive, it’s all about soaking up the sun and enjoying beautiful beaches. Their favorite spot to grab a bite and enjoy the water is Cocoa Beach pier.

Scaling New Heights in the Eastern Sierras

For Ali R., summer weekends are about leaving behind the busy shores of Laguna Beach, California, and jumping into his F-150 Lightning to head to the quiet trails of the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains.

His go-to spot is Horseshoe Meadows, a trailhead 24 miles southwest of Lone Pine, California, that serves as the starting point for hikes like Mount Langley. It's a roughly 21-mile hike round trip and takes around 12 hours. To do it, he gets up early to hike and drives home after.

Nearly 50% of the trip is hands-free on the highway before the mountain roads take over the route, helping to make weekend trips much more manageable. He actually prefers taking the 14 — also known as the Antelope Valley Freeway — even if it adds a little time to his trip.

He also has plenty of charging stations to stop at, using the charging time to check emails for work or get his steps in by walking around. (Last year, he drove up to Northern California and logged 10,000 steps during those charge times.)

In the summer of 2024, Ali summited Mount Whitney, Mount Agassiz, Lone Pine Peak, and Mount Langley six times. This year, he’s planning even more trips.
