“Seeing the Animals Eat the Food We Transported is the Greatest Motivation”

We designed the new Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid 1 to manage almost any task with ease.
Its petrol-electric hybrid technology offers up to 43 km of zero tailpipe emission driving, 1 reduced cost of ownership and the extra utility of Pro Power Onboard, 2 while still delivering the same towing, load-carrying and off-road ability that has made the Ranger such a hit with customers.
And there's no substitute for the rigours of the real world or the opinions of those current Ranger owners who use their vehicles day in and day out in all manner of situations.
So we decided to invite a few current Ranger owners out to Iceland, one of Europe’s harshest environments, so they could experience the new Ranger PHEV for themselves and try out its many features first hand.
Pro Power When You Need it Most
Ranger PHEV is the first Ranger to offer Pro Power Onboard, 2 so you can leave the generator at home and use the traction battery to power anything from electric mountain bikes on a weekend away to heavy-duty kit like a compact cement mixer or an angle grinder.
Gruff Rees is a current Ranger owner, bee-keeper, countryside ranger and farmer, and frequently needs to power electric equipment outdoors. Here he gets to grip with a circular saw hooked up to Pro Power Onboard.
No Compromise Ranger Capability
Ranger PHEV's combination of EcoBoost petrol and e-motor power doesn't just offer up 43 km of pure electric driving 1 – it enhances performance both on- and off-road too.
Lewis is an admin for Ranger Club UK, a 15,000-strong community of Ranger owners, and he had the opportunity to test the Ranger PHEV's off-road capabilities as well as its electric mode performance.
"With the Ranger now in a mixture of 4A, 4H and 4L with the occasional help from the rear diff lock, we tackled a host of challenges; from river crossings, to sheer inclines. The PHEV breezed through all the terrains and obstacles with ease, even when in full EV mode (next to silent off-roading is something we’ll never get used to!).
It was great to see that Ford put in the effort to create the PHEV with the same towing, payload and off-road capabilities that Ranger customers want and have come to expect," he commented.
With 697 Nm of torque it has the highest torque output of any production Ranger ever, 3 while the additional e-motor braking and high torque output offers effortless acceleration and precise control when using hill descent control.
Pro Trailer Backup Assist Makes Reversing a Breeze
Reversing into a tight space with trailer attached can be challenging, but Ranger PHEV offers a technology that gives confidence even to the inexperienced.
Pro Trailer Backup Assist 4 allows you to control the Ranger's steering via a controller and monitor your progress on the 12-inch touchscreen, making it a breeze to back your trailer into position.
Hannah – better known as Red Shepherdess – runs a sheep farm in Cumbria and frequently needs to manoeuvre trailers loaded with sheep, so we gave her the chance to try the system for herself.
James Cooper is the brand manager, Europe, for the Ford Ranger
1 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid homologated CO2 emissions 70-72 g/km WLTP, homologated fuel efficiency 3.1-3.2 l/100 km WLTP and pure electric driving range up to 43 km WLTP. The declared WLTP fuel/energy consumptions, CO2 emissions and electric range are determined according to the technical requirements and specifications of the European Regulations (EC) 715/2007 and (EU) 2017/1151 as last amended. The applied standard test procedures enable comparison between different vehicle types and different manufacturers. A range of up to 43 km can be achieved with a fully charged battery - depending on the existing series and battery configuration. The actual range may vary due to various factors (e.g. weather conditions, driving style, route profile, vehicle condition, age and condition of the lithium-ion battery).
2 See Owner’s Manual for important operating instructions.
3 Horsepower and torque are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously.
4 Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.
