Capri and Explorer Recharged: What’s New for Ford’s Electric Icons?

Our all-electric Explorer SUV and Capri sport crossover offer distinctive design and sophisticated technologies with the performance and convenience of an electric powertrain.

That hasn’t stopped us looking for ways to make them even better, which is why we are introducing key improvements to the Capri and Explorer Standard Range models

Q: What’s New for the Ford Explorer and Capri Standard Range Models?

A: The Ford Explorer 1 and Ford Capri Standard Range 2 models are receiving a significant performance boost through a new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery and an enhanced electric motor. These updates increase driving range by up to 70 km, provide more torque for faster acceleration, and allow for more frequent charging to 100 per cent.

Q: What are the Ford Explorer and Capri?

A: The Ford Explorer is an all-electric adventure utility vehicle designed for versatility, while the Ford Capri is an all-electric sports crossover that blends classic heritage with modern performance. Both vehicles show our commitment to combining iconic design with sophisticated electric vehicle technology.

Q: How far can the new Ford Explorer and Capri drive on a single charge?

A: With the new battery option, both models have seen a range increase of up to 17 per cent so are now capable of exceeding 400 km on a full charge. Explorer Standard Range now offers up to 444 km of range, with Capri Standard Range up to 464 km of range. This additional range (up to 70 km more than previous versions) gives drivers more freedom to travel longer distances between charges.

Q: How has the performance and speed improved?

A: The enhanced electric motor delivers more power and better responsiveness. Key performance specs include:

Power: Increased to 190 PS. 3

Torque: Increased to 350 Nm. 3

Acceleration: Both models can now accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.0 seconds.

Q: What makes the new LFP battery technology different?

A: The introduction of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry offers several practical benefits for owners:

Sustainability: LFP batteries use fewer high-demand raw materials compared to traditional chemistries.

Charging habits: This chemistry offers extra durability, allowing customers to more regularly charge the battery to 100 per cent capacity to make longer trips easier.

Q: Why is Ford making these changes now?

A: We are always focused on a philosophy of continuous improvement. By refining the battery and motor technology, it ensures that even the most affordable standard range models deliver the unique driving appeal and capacity for adventure that customers expect.
