From Hanoi to Hampshire: How 8 Ford Dealers Are Changing Lives Across the Globe

In Silver Lake, Indiana, the Kerlin family has twice donated land to ensure their neighbors have a place to enjoy together. The co-owner of Kerlin Motor Company and a 2026 Ford Salute to Dealers honoree, Rick Kerlin recently provided more than 3.5 acres to serve as the permanent home for a new community center.
The Salute to Dealers program recognizes dealer principals who go above and beyond for their local areas, and this gift is a continuation of a legacy that began with Kerlin’s grandparents, who previously donated land for a town playground.
“Once the project is complete, the time and the dollars involved to make the project happen are forgotten,” said Kerlin. “The joy it brings to other people's lives remains forever.”
Beyond this impactful donation, Kerlin is committed to longstanding community initiatives.
Since 1999, he has led an annual coat drive that’s collected more than 25,000 coats and raised $250,000 for local charities. His commitment to the region also includes supporting food security through the Boomerang Backpacks program, which provides weekend meals for students, and health initiatives like Racquets for Riley, which supports children’s hospital research.

Can you recall the very first time you felt the impact of helping someone?
Rick Kerlin: One of my earliest memories is when I was around 12 years old. A local family had a house fire and lost everything. They had several children, so we donated clothing and other items to help them recover.
What is the most rewarding part of seeing your dealership employees rally together to volunteer?
Rick Kerlin: Seeing the employees feel the joy and satisfaction of helping others.
For a young person who wants to help their community but doesn’t know where to start, what is the first small step you would recommend?
Rick Kerlin: I recommend that they join a club or group that is focused on giving back.

For 26 years, Ford has celebrated the extraordinary contributions of its dealers through the Salute to Dealers program. Congratulations and thank you to all eight of the 2026 honorees for their commitment to service.
