Mustang Memories: Celebrating Dads Across Canada

As any Mustang fan knows, everyone has a Mustang story.

This summer, Ford asked Canadians to share theirs in celebration of Mustang’s 62nd anniversary - and they did not disappoint. Stories poured in from across the country, demonstrating how Mustang has been part of life’s biggest moments: cross-country road trips, dream cars finally found, childhood memories made real, and beloved ponies passed from one generation to the next.

With Father's Day approaching, some of the most moving stories were those shared between fathers and their children, reminding us that behind every Mustang is something even more enduring: the people and memories that give it meaning. Here are some of our favourite fatherly moments shared by Canadians:

“When my dad turned 60, I started my hunt for "The Perfect Dadstang" and we found it - a dark silver 2015 Ragtop, V8 GT Premium package with automatic transmission. We drove 4500 KM from Alberta to New Brunswick to give it to him. EVERY gas station in every province as we drove had someone coming up to us, either complimenting the car, or telling us stories about THEIR Mustang – the one they own, or the one they owned, or the one that got away. Looking back, it was the best part of the trip - getting to share those stories. He loves that car as much as I hoped, my mom was worried he was going to leave her for the car!  Dad has himself a beautiful Mustang GT that he polishes by hand on a weekly basis. He drives the daylights out of it, he puts miles on it because it’s made to be driven, and along the way, my wife and I realized we might be Mustang people :)”

“My Mustang story began when I was six years old, newly arrived in Canada and obsessed with these cars with a little pony on the badge. I didn't know what it was, but I knew I wanted one.  Fast forward twenty odd years and I finally found myself in the seat of one. A law school graduation present to myself where my girlfriend and I would take a red Mustang convertible through the Canadian Rockies on a 3,000km road trip of a lifetime.

Views aside, the most memorable moments were with the people that this trip brought together, especially the moment where I showed my parents the car for the first time and we compared it to the toy model they bought when I was a kid. That six year old finally got his Mustang, and it was better than he could've ever imagined.”

“My dad bought his Mustang brand new in 1965 and it’s been in the family ever since. My dad was a family doctor and he drove it around for house calls!  I remember as a kid he would get stopped by the police all the time, but not for speeding tickets - because they wanted to look at the car!  When my dad died, my brother bought it from my mom, and then a few years ago I bought it from him. So even though it has technically had four owners, it has stayed in the same family all that time.  We get a lot of smiles and waves when we drive it and it makes me think of him every time.”

“This car is a memory of my father. He bought it in 2012, and the day he brought it home, he hand-painted the stripes with a brush (he was a painter and sign-maker, so working with a brush was second nature to him). That’s what makes this Mustang truly unique.  To me, it’s more than an inheritance. He gave it to me in 2021 after losing his driver’s license, and sadly, he passed away by suicide in November 2024.

Today, I love taking it out for drives and thinking about my father, who was so proud of his Mustang. He used it daily—for errands, summer and winter—for nine years. It may not be the most beautiful model, but it has its story, and I’m doing my best to take care of it so I can keep it for many years to come.”

“This is my ’66 Mustang, and I’ve owned it for almost 30 years. These old cars are more than just pieces of metal. They carry memories. When people see them, they’re taken back to a different time, a place of happiness. They remember a family member, a friend, or a neighbor who had a car just like this. That’s what makes them special. It’s not just the car, it’s the stories and moments that come with it.”
