As part of our ongoing commitment to industry-leading quality and customer satisfaction, we’ve identified an opportunity to enhance our software update processes in collaboration with our dealers.
That’s why, in early January, we began rolling out a new, enhanced software validation process at our dealerships to help technicians ensure the right software is present on the vehicle.
Like a mobile device or cell phone, if a vehicle is significantly behind on the software update, multiple downloads might be necessary to reach the most current version for that vehicle. This can be a critical factor when trying to resolve a recall and a challenge dealer technicians can face.
Our new process gives dealer service technicians clear confirmation that the correct and most up to date software is installed on a vehicle, across every module. Modules are “small computers” that perform a specific task, controlling everything from door locks to display units to cameras.
We're conducting an audit of earlier recalls that included software as part of the remedy. The initial results are encouraging: the vast majority of recall repairs were successful, with the correct software version installed on the relevant module. While most of these recalls were performed correctly to date, we have issued eighteen recalls to double check on certain vehicles.
We understand recalls like this software confirmation process can be an inconvenience, but we believe these improvements will strengthen the trust and confidence our customers place in the Ford brand.
