Your Car Is Probably Older Than You Think. Ford is Ready for the Long Haul.

The average car on the road in America is almost 13 years old, according to industry data. Think about that. A vehicle bought new when the first iPhone 5 came out is now squarely average. Thirty years ago, that number was closer to 8.

Here's another way to look at it. Over those same three decades, the median age of Americans rose about 16% — from 34 to roughly 40, according to U.S. Census data. The vehicles we drive aged more than 50%. Our cars, in other words, are getting older more than three times faster than we are.

That's not bad news. People aren't holding onto their vehicles because they have to settle. They're holding onto them because the vehicles are good — built to last longer than any generation before. A well-kept F-150® can go many, many years and miles. A Bronco® bought for weekend trail runs becomes the car a kid learns to drive in. An Expedition® that hauled a young family to soccer practice is now towing a camper to the lake.

That's a great story. But it changes what people need from us. A vehicle you plan to keep for 15 years deserves a different kind of care than the one you'll trade in after three. Customers today are looking for an easy solution where they know they can get quality parts installed by professional technicians. (Our mantra: Real Parts. Real Pros. Real Easy.)

If you own a 2012 Fusion, you shouldn't have to hunt down a brake rotor or wonder if the part you're getting will actually fit. That’s why we have Motorcraft parts, which for 50 years, has been a trusted name for keeping vehicles running, whether you work in a professional garage or in your own driveway. Now, we’re gearing up for what’s next.

We want you to love your vehicle for the long haul, which is why we’re making it easier to maintain older, out-of-warranty rides — giving you peace of mind at year 13 that you had at year three. And for the businesses and fleets out there getting the hard work done every day, we’re preparing even more parts just for you.

The person turning the wrench matters as much as the wrench. When your truck throws a code you've never seen before, you want someone who's seen it a hundred times — not someone Googling it in the back.

Ford is making maintaining your vehicles easier, even when out of warranty.

Our technicians train on these vehicles specifically, from the gas-powered Bronco to the all-electric Mustang Mach-E, and they keep training as the vehicles themselves improve through over-the-air updates. We're also funding scholarships and trade-school partnerships, because the next great technician is in high school right now, and we want her working in a Ford bay.

Spending time in a waiting room doesn’t work for everyone. So we've stopped expecting customers to come to us when we can come to them. Roughly one in seven Ford service visits now happens at the customer's home or office through our mobile service fleet —the largest in the country, according to 2025 Ford and competitive data1.

Need an oil change before a road trip but can't take a morning off? A technician pulls into your driveway to perform Ford Mobile Service. Want a new set of tires but the baby's finally napping? Pickup & Delivery brings the vehicle to the dealer and back. You schedule it all in the Ford app, a sort of remote command center that knows your vehicle and what it needs, at no additional cost. Use the app the same way you'd order dinner.

Ford technicians are trained to service specific vehicles, so you know you're getting dedicated service.

Cars are lasting longer. Lives are busier. The dealership experience your parents knew isn't the one today's owners want or need. We're building something here that's worth the effort — for the customer keeping an F-150 through three kids, the technician spending a career mastering these vehicles, and everyone in between.
